DERMATOLOGIST APPROVED SKIN TREATMENTS YOU CAN PREPARE AT HOME

DERMATOLOGIST APPROVED SKIN TREATMENTS YOU CAN PREPARE AT HOME

Treatment for Blackheads and Whiteheads:

Blackheads and whiteheads are also known as “comedones”. On our face, there are fine, thin hairs known as villas hairs which are attached to a gland called the sebaceous gland. So, when there is a blockage of the hair follicle due to sebum or skin debris, it leads to the formation of comedones. If there is a thin layer of skin above the skin debris, it leads to the formation of whiteheads.

When this comedone is exposed to the environment, then oxidation of keratin happens which leads to the appearance of blackheads.

Blackheads and whiteheads appear on the nose, forehead, and chin area in persons with oily skin, combination complexion, acne issues, or when we apply too much cosmetics.

In order to treat this, we need to reduce the accumulation of the oil and keratin in the hair follicle opening.

We should use a chemical exfoliant which contains salicylic acid which will help shed the dead skin and let the oil come out smoothly.

How to use this?

Use salicylic acid as a face wash:

Saslic Foaming Face Wash, 60ml by Cipla

·       Firstly, wet your face.

·       Then on the damp face apply face wash, lather it and form a foam on the areas you have blackheads,

·       Leave for 30 secs and then wash it off with lukewarm water.

·       After washing your face apply a bit of moisturiser on your face in order to prevent your skin from dryness.

You can use a gel based moisturisers such as Cipla Excela Moisturiser for Oily and Acne-Prone Skin 50g.

When to use it?

So, if you have oily skin, use it twice a day and in the case of combination skin, use it once a day. If you have dry skin/sensitive skin, apply it only once or twice a week.

Apart from this salicylic acid face wash, if you have dry or sensitive skin, it may cause irritation so, you can use salicylic acid gels by sebonac.

When to use it?

If you have oily skin, use it every night in small quantities on the blackhead areas. If you have combination skin, apply it on alternate nights and if your skin is dry or sensitive, it’s better to use only once or twice a week.

Tretinoin creams:

These tretinoin creams help in reducing sebum production and sheds the dead skin layer. In the case of oily skin, you can use Retino-A in 0.025% cream at night. Leave it applied overnight and wash it off in the morning followed by the application of moisturiser on your skin. But use it in a small quantity first and leave it for an hour. After getting used to it, you can leave it overnight.

Don’t use it for sensitive skin as it can cause redness and irritation.

Treatment for Dark Spots on Your Skin:

Hyperpigmentation is caused by sun exposure over years. It can also be caused if you are taking oral contraceptives, certain chemotherapy drugs if you are pregnant or have allergies, excessive scrubbing. It can also be caused by tobacco smoking.

In order to treat this, it is very important to keep yourself away from the sun. Use UV-A/UV-B suns cream, SPF-30. Use this even when you are indoors because the blue light coming from the laptop/UV light coming from windows can also cause this.

Don’t scrub or use perfumes on your skin. Stop smoking and swimming or steam sauna. Also, avoid sugar.

Home Remedies Recommended by Dermatologist:

Chemical Peeling:

Dermatologists recommend using chemicals such as lactic acid, citric acid, glycolic acid, salicylic acid.

1. Use of apple cider vinegar: Apple cider vinegar has acetic acid which can act as a chemical peel for your pigmented area. Apply 1 part of apple cider vinegar with 1 part of water to the pigmented area for a few minutes and apply it twice a day.

2. Mix curd and turmeric and apply on a suntan. Leave it for 10-15 mins and wash it off. Curd has anti-septic properties and turmeric has antiseptic properties which is beneficial for the skin.

3. Mix gram flour( Besan) and rice powder with water and apply the paste for 10-15 mins on your skin.

Milk powder and rosewater also remove tan.

4. Vitamin C – contains citric acid or ascorbic acid which helps in reducing hyperpigmentation. Some sources of vitamin C are grapefruit, lemon, papaya which helps increase the antioxidants on the surface and lightens the cell over time. For instant radiance, a mashed papaya mask can give immediate effect.

5. Applying potato on your skin is very beneficial in removing pigmentation:

How to apply?

STEP 1: Grate a potato and squeeze the juice out of it.

STEP 2: Add some lemon juice to it and mix well.

STEP 3: Apply the mixture to the dark spot area.
